Before You Start
Make sure you have these three things ready:
- MT4 installed — Download from your broker's website (ICMarkets, Pepperstone, etc.) if you haven't already. It's free.
- A trading account with XAU/USD — Any broker that offers gold trading will work. We recommend ICMarkets (Raw Spread) or Pepperstone (Razor) for the lowest costs.
- Your license key — Check the email you used when purchasing. Your key looks like: PG-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
Don't have a license key? Check your email inbox and spam folder. If you can't find it, email us at support@proof.trading with your purchase email and we'll resend it right away.

Download the EA File
Log in to your My Account page using your purchase email and license key. You'll see a download button for the .ex4 file.
Save the file somewhere easy to find — like your Desktop.
What's an .ex4 file? It's the EA program file that MT4 runs. Think of it like installing an app — you download it once and it does all the work.

Copy the File to MT4
This is the only technical step, and it takes 30 seconds:
- Open MT4
- Click File in the top menu
- Click Open Data Folder
- A folder opens. Double-click MQL4
- Double-click Experts
- Paste the ProofGold .ex4 file here
- Close the folder and restart MT4
Can't find it? In MT4, you can also right-click on "Expert Advisors" in the Navigator panel (bottom-left) and click "Open Folder." That takes you directly to the Experts folder.

Open a Gold Chart
In MT4, open a chart for gold (XAUUSD):
- Click File → New Chart
- Find XAUUSD (it might be under "Spot Metals" or "CFDs" depending on your broker)
- Once the chart opens, right-click the chart → Timeframes → M5 (5 minutes)
Don't see XAUUSD? Right-click on "Symbols" in Market Watch (Ctrl+M) and click "Show All." XAUUSD should appear. If not, your broker might list it as "Gold" or "XAU/USD" with a slash.

Attach the EA to Your Chart
Now connect Proof Gold to your gold chart:
- In the Navigator panel (left side), expand Expert Advisors
- Find ProofGold_v1.0 in the list
- Drag it onto your XAUUSD chart (or double-click it)
- A settings window pops up
In the settings window:
- Common tab → Check "Allow live trading" and "Allow DLL imports"
- Inputs tab → Find InpLicenseKey → Paste your license key (PG-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX)
- Inputs tab → Find InpLicenseEmail → Type the email you used to purchase
- Click OK
Everything else is automatic. The EA auto-detects your broker, your account type, and configures all the trading settings. You don't need to change anything else.

Enable AutoTrading
One final click — the big one:
- Look at the toolbar at the top of MT4
- Find the AutoTrading button (it has a play/stop icon)
- Click it so it turns green
- You should see a smiley face in the top-right corner of your chart
That smiley face means Proof Gold is running. It will start looking for trades at the next session.
That's it. You're done. Proof Gold is now monitoring the market 24 hours a day. It will open and close trades automatically based on market conditions. You don't need to watch the chart — it works whether you're sleeping, working, or on vacation.

What to Expect
Here's what happens from here:
- First trades usually appear within 24 hours, depending on when you start and market conditions
- The dashboard on your chart shows your daily profit, active session, and trade history in real time
- Some days will be red — that's normal. The edge shows over weeks and months, not individual days
- We recommend running for at least 30 days before evaluating performance
- You'll receive milestone emails as the EA hits trading achievements
